“The media makes a substantial contribution to stereotypes and biases while also developing prejudice toward people with.” According to my perspective on this matter, it is true to the latter. It is through the channels of communication that in most instances incorporate the media through which the public is made aware of the existence of the persons with mental illnesses. Their shortcomings are brought out through the media that in most instances involves the pictorial broadcasting of the television hence facilitating the creation stereotypes and the buildup of stigma.

Through the media, the capabilities that the victims of mental illnesses are not able to meet are as well depicted and this is a prejudiced and biased point of view. The media should not have to highlight the misfortunes of populace who are pale of mental illnesses and it should instead give a glare to their capabilities to create an icon that is positive to their pose and status in the community (Gillmor, 2004). It instead does major on the pessimism that the people with mental illnesses are based on and their inabilities, which facilitate the association of the victims with the factor for a reasonable time and duration though it is biased and stereotypical.

Media roles in the matter is more to the creation of misconceptions as opposed to the practical images of the victims and their strengths thus making the audience to associate certain weaknesses with the mentally challenged individual beings that are hard to fight against. The prejudiced role that the media does play has for long led to the biased and stereotyped associations of particular behaviors and shortcomings with the mentally ill persons. The media kind of conduct is associated with not reasonable points of view when choosing the information to broadcast on and a failure to consider the effects it has to the victim and the communal aspects. Thus, the media does enhance the creation of biases and stereotypes for people who are mentally challenged (Gillmor, 2004).
